The "BE WELL RAMONES BEAT ON CANCER" benefit concert took place in New York City on October 8th 2004. The venue was Spirit a super cool dance club in Manhattan. Johnny Ramone and Arturo started planning this event the previous summer and since there were also plans for a west coast event, it was decided from the start the East coast show should have a "very New York vibe," and that's how Blondie, Sonic Youth and The Strokes were chosen to top a long list of artists. The event had multiple layers of celebration, it was a Ramones 30th Anniversary party, also Johnny had died just 3 weeks earlier and the concert became a tribute to him, made more meaningful by the fact that it was on his birthday. The event had the full support and aproval of Johnny's wife Linda Ramone who attended the concert and privately thanked friends and artist who came to celebrate. It was also a concert to benefit the fight against cancer, a cause that for obvious reasons was very important to Johnny, and finally it was CJ Ramone's birthday too so we could actually celebrate his birthday with cake and lots of beer.

The cast also included CJ Ramone, Daniel Rey and Bill Stevenson, who formed the core of a band, performing a set of Ramones songs with guests like Tommy Ramone. Elvis Ramone (Blondie's drummer Clem Burke was actually a Ramones drummer for a short while) Joan Jett, Josh Homme, Andrew WK, and Alan Vega. Arturo put together an exhibition of Ramones memorabilia that included such precious items as the T-shirt and jeans that Johnny wore at the last Ramones show and his fabled "White Mosrite" guitar. Take a look and have a good time.
