As usual we had to go through a %#@*&! battle to get things right. You are not gonna believe this but "the city" put the sign on the WRONG! place, you will see how Arturo took it down himself when his pleas to the bureaucrats to correct the situation didn't work. How the street sign was finally installed on the right spot in the rain with a crew working on slippery ladders complaining because Arturo insisted on the sign being as high as possible. The sign was covered with a plastic sleeve waiting for the official unveiling, but the plastic was removed overnight, so once more we had to go up there and cover it, but this time we used a Ramones T shirt, how %#@%(&# cool is that? We'll tell you and show you all about the speakers at the ceremony inside CBGB where the usual suspects, family, friends and fans delivered heartfelt tributes to Joey. Outside an enormous crowd gathered around the corner of 2nd Street and the Bowery, completely blocking the street. Then everybody from inside CBGB came outside and after a few more words by Joey's family and the local city officials that supported the event, the crowd started a chant of HEY HO LET'S GO, followed by a count down, then the Ramones eagle logo T shirt covering the sign was pulled by Arturo and as they say THE CROWD WENT WILD!We have lots of photos to go through, including the ones from the party at the loft afterwards, so please be patient. And don't worry, it'll be worth your while. Here is the text of Arturo's letter to Joey. DEAR JOEY YOU WERE RIGHT ABOUT MANY THINGS, BUT THE ONE THAT KEEPS COMING BACK TO MY MIND THESE DAYS IS YOUR DEEP-ROOTED DETERMINATION TO MAKE THINGS BETTER. I REMEMBER IT BECAME A JOKE BETWEEN US HOW OFTEN, WHEN YOU WERE WRITING SONGS UP IN THE LOFT, YOU WANTED TO FINISH THEM WITH THE WORDS "AND EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE ALL RIGHT, OH YEAH, OOH YEAH." WE LAUGHED ABOUT IT, BUT THEN YOU STILL WANTED THE SONG TO END THAT WAY. TODAY'S CELEBRATION MAKES A LOT OF THINGS ALL RIGHT. ON A PERSONAL, SELFISH LEVEL I AM IMMENSELY PROUD, I CAN EVEN SAY I AM ECSTATIC, TO BE SOMEWHAT CONNECTED TO THIS SO-WELL-DESERVED TRIUMPH. THE RAMONES ARE STILL A FORWARD-THRUSTING ROCKET, AND THEIR INFLUENCE CONTINUES TO MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE YOUNG PUNKS ALL OVER THE WORLD. I KNOW YOU APPRECIATED THE FANS IN ARGENTINA AND BRAZIL AS MUCH AS THE ONES IN JAPAN, SPAIN, ITALY AND ALL THE REST, BUT YOUR HEART WAS WHERE YOUR HOME WAS, AND THAT OF COURSE WAS NEW YORK CITY, PARTICULARLY THE EAST VILLAGE.SO TODAY THIS GREAT CITY, AND THE COOLEST NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE COUNTRY, WHICH YOU HELPED MAKE EVEN GREATER, WANT TO SAY THANKS TO YOU JOEY.
